The PTE – Academic Test Preparation course at York Business Institute is designed for international students who wish to improve their English proficiency for the Pearson Test of English (PTE) – Academic. The course prepares students to develop the skills needed to achieve their desired PTE scores for educational or migration purposes.
Students will enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, with a focus on test-taking strategies and techniques. The course also includes practice on a computer interface to simulate actual test conditions.

Entry Requirement
- Students wishing to commence PTE – Academic Test Preparation Level (Upper Intermediate Entry) need to achieve an Upper Intermediate level of English on York Business Institute’s placement test. Alternatively, students would need to provide evidence that their English is at a PTE-A score of 59–75 or an IELTS score of 5.5–6.0 (or equivalent) prior to being accepted on the course.
- Students wishing to commence PTE – Academic Test Preparation Level (Advanced Entry) need to achieve an Advanced level of English on York Business Institute’s placement test. Alternatively, students would need to provide evidence that their English is at a PTE-A score of 76–84 or an IELTS score of 6.5–7.0 (or equivalent) prior to being accepted on the course.

Relationship to and articulation with other courses
There are presently no plans to set up articulations with other institutions for this course. Within our own institution, PET would be available to General English students at an Intermediate level, FCE would be available to General English students at an Upper Intermediate level and CAE would be available to General English students at an Advanced level.
